Lecture: Synchronicity

Jung once confessed in a letter that with his notion of synchronicity, “my thought has hit the ceiling.” Feeling that science was dismissing too much of human experience by trying to explain everything through cause and effect analysis, he proposed an acausal principle of connectedness that united the inner and outer worlds in meaningful ways. Accordingly, synchronicities, or what he called “meaningful coincidences,” are not easily dismissed as “mere” coincidence, nor can they be explained away by “common sense.” They tend to provoke outright acknowledgement, and require a different hermeneutic than that provided by traditional science.

We invite you to a lecture that speaks to Jung’s contribution to the re-enchantment of the universe, by way of a concept that brings science and spirituality back into dialogue, following their hostile estrangement beginning in the 17th century.
